Operation Write Home (OWH)

At some of the retreats I've attended the last couple of years, we have each made a card to send over to the men & women in the military. Some have been thank you cards for them and others are blank cards since they don't have a Hallmark Shop in the neighborhood. Now many of you may have already known, but I just found out about the website: Operation Write Home (OWH).  It gives all the information needed to participate in the program. Seasonal cards are needed way ahead of time in order to be shipped to the Middle East, selected by a service person and mailed back to their loved ones. For example, Halloween cards will be due no later than mid September, preferably sooner.

Consider all the cards you make for challenges each week. Some we can use - like all the June birthdays in my family - but some we can't. They prefer the invitation sized cards (2 cards per piece of 8 1/2 by 11 cardstock). Going through what I had already made, I found over 20 cards.

One thing to remember - NO GLITTER. It flakes off and can put our people in danger at night. All the rules & addresses & packaging information is on the website.
Masculine cards are especially needed. I guess the guys don't like using the flowery ones. Blank cards can be used to write letters home or they can write in the appropriate "Happy Birthday", "Happy Anniversary", "Thinking of You" etc.

So look through your stash of completed cards and donate some. Five, ten, twenty,,, They also need donations to pay for postage. The members of our military are sacrificing a lot for us. Can't we do this little bit to help them?
